At first glance the distortions in the painting appeared to be a moon and stars in the night sky. Despite the dark tones and shadows, this work makes me feel peaceful. It reminds me of the time I spent walking on black sand beaches in Costa Rica in the middle of the night. There was one place that overlooked a lagoon surrounded by dense jungle where I would sit on a large piece of drift wood. This painting reminds me of the outline of that location, as it was barely visible in the starlight. I remember initially feeling anxious because of the dark outlines and shadows of an unfamiliar landscape and indiscernible animal calls. However, after staying still for a while and adjusting to the darkness and noise I was at peace.
