Damian Stamer; New Sharon Church Rd. 22; 2015
First of all, I love this painting from a technical point of view. I’m really interested to see how exactly he painted it. The disjointed, corroded way it’s composed makes it interesting to look at and gives it an isolated, somber feel. To me, this is a statement about the decline of traditional farm life in America. The barn still stands in the field, but it’s decayed and alone. It’s cut off from the rest of society. The lack of colour makes it feel dated – like an old black and white photo.
