Nature and the American Vision: The Hudson River School

This painting stood out to me for several reasons. The first reason is my love for palm trees and the connotation they hold of great times spent on family vacations in beautiful tropical locations. Another thing that I found especially interesting about this landscape is the contrasting environments of the snowy mountaintop in the distance beyond the lush, tropical greenery in the forefront of the image. The dark cloud in between the greenery and snowy mountain illustrate the elevation difference between the two locations, as well as emphasizes the variable precipitation that this place exhibits (snow and rain). I think this painting emphasizes the dualistic relationship of biology and geography.s_91_cayambe_fredericedwinchurch
