Severn Eaton

Mother's Cheese

Mother’s Cheese

Much of Severn Eaton’s work left me with a lot of questions. With this piece in particular I can think of a few deeper meanings behind it. Is it meant to represent the poor often inhumane treatment of women by our society? Is it meant to point out how strange it is that we drink milk from and make dairy products from the milk of other animals? Is it just to make the viewer uncomfortable? If that was the case, then it was successful. I also want to know where the artist got the breast milk. Then what was does with the human cheese? Was it thrown away or did someone eat it? This work made me uncomfortable, but also curious as to the reasons behind it and the end results.
